While I’m firmly on the sidelines of the health care debate, I do have to wonder about some of the arguments against health care reform. Some are arguing that if the reform goes through then the government will decide who gets treatment. Considering that the government is designed to serve the people, how would government run health care be worse than insurance company run healthcare? If the argument is that government will intrude on the doctor/patient relationship and dictate what treatment a patient gets, are we any better off with the insurance companies intruding in the same manner? While I’m not a big fan of the government, I’m much more willing to trust an organization that was at least intended to look out for my rights and wellbeing than I am to trust a company designed to make a profit by not looking out for them.
